Little found treasures...

We visited Putney, VT last fall and I had the good fortune to stumble upon a vintage bookstore to browse. I explained to the proprietor a very nice older gentleman that I enjoyed altered art and was looking for sheet music, ledgers, etc. At first he showed me items that were $500 and up....lol, beautiful pieces, but certainly not intended to be altered. I explained what I was looking for again and he went out to his storage room and came back in with a box full of old "worthless" papers. I had hit the mother load, oh yeah. I was going through some of my vintage papers today and found this sweet calendar from 1892. Is it not precious? You can see the word December which was the last monthly page torn off. I am sharing it today because I have just been given my Silver Bella "Embroidery Sampler" swap partner. And when I saw "sewing circle" at the bottom of the circle I just knew I needed to share it and figure out a special project to honor it's beauty. Any ideas...... Again as I was sorting I also had forgotten that I found this old Postcard with my name, Catherine...oh la la. It is from France and on the back it says.."Vive Saint Catherine" and it is from Christiane and I just happen to have a daughter, Cristina. So, of course, I believe that I was destined to find this vintage treasure.

On Ali Edwards blog
she has been talking about Shedding Layers: Supplies and Creative Expectations. Thus I began to reorder my studio with the intent of clearing out stuff I don't use...and I did succeed to some degree, but I also found "little treasures" I had put away and forgotten. How wonderful to re-find them.
What do you have hidden away and forgotten? It might be time to look...

Guess who just signed up for an Embroidery Swap...

I am one of the lucky gals to be attending Silver Bella 2009. This will be my first time and I am very excited. When I signed up little did I realized the amazing swaps we would have the opportunity to participate in. And I am talking high quality art here baby, oh my. I am happy to say that I was able to get into the "Embroidery Sampler" Swap, oh yeah. I used to do quite a bit of embroidery but over the years became side tracked and just somehow quit. But now am ready to bite the apple, thread my needle and begin...

Look at this lovely vintage pattern I found at Jafagirlart...She says this is a Supplement to Weldon's Ladies Journal No.688) and is guessing it's from the 30's/40's.

The anticipation.....hoop, thread, needle, scissors

Is this not just too wonderful...I luv pink, so sweet. Little Pink Studio
featured a lovely segment on her blog about vintage linens.

An original by Senta Plyer and a Baby Gardner Exclusive!

Beautiful vintage embroidery is in My {View} today, what is in yours?

Grandmothers, Mothers, Daughters...

Ditigal pagers: Rhonna Ferrar_Explore, Grunge Overlay K Pertiet

I have recently changed my focus a little when it comes to scrapping, I certainly still use current photos, but more and more I am spending time in our old family albums and creating layouts of our history and heritage.

I think I also mentioned that I have upgraded from Elements 6 to Adobe CS4, quite a leap, lol. So I am revisiting some of my Jessica Sprague digital classes using CS4 to improve my skill level. Thought it would be fun to share a layout with you all...

This LO begins with Mary, my great grandmother, followed by my sweet Mama, Audrie. And then there is a snap of me at HS graduation, followed by my beautiful daughter, Cristina and her daughter Sophia Maria.

The Way I Walk

I see my mother walking

My feet secure

and firm upon the ground,

The way I talk,

I hear my daughter talking,

And hear my mother's echo

in the sound.

The way she thought

I find myself now thinking,

The generations linking

In a firm continuum of mind.

The bridge of immortality

I'm walking -

The voice before me echoing behind.

Looking out my window....

The weather here in the Pacific NW has been delightful of late. I so often complain about the lack of sunshine and the constant grey mixed with rain, but not today. Please take a moment and enjoy {My View} with me.
What is one to say about June,

the time of perfect young summer,

the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months,

and with as yet no sign to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever fade.
