Une Chatelaine...

A what, you may ask... Well, back in the day, if you happened to be the mistress of a castle or a large fashionable household you more than likely wore a chatelaine. It is worn around the neck and usually made of fabric which contained "her lady's" needles and small scissors so she always had them at hand.

This is the one I just finished for my partner in a "Marie Antoinette" Mail Art swap. I used light pink silk, which was embroidered and another piece that was pleated or roushed. Embellished with satin ribbons, vintage roses and an old pearl brooch. The back is vintage creame felt with a small pink crocheted heart attached.

I still plan to tuck in some lace and then send it on it's way...

I have fallen in love with these and though, I am not the mistress of a castle I do believe I must have one :)

XOXO

Catherine

Your chatelaine is worthy of a very fine castle. Such lovely colour and texture.
