Life is like a box of chocolates...

you never know what you are going to get.
Forest Gump  1984

For one brief moment, my chickadee was safely back home in the family nest.  But life is ever changing and filled with challenging curves.

I was inspired by Amy's, Inspire Co. blog when she shared so honestly and beautifully about her poignant journey as a foster mom on her blog.  So I take a deep breath and in the footsteps of Amy I share...

Our son and his family spent the month of July with us and then spent a few weeks in Washington DC before heading off to his new assignment in Monterrey, Mexico.  They literally had just arrived when everything began to go belly up.  The drug cartels are at war with each other and the city has become very dangerous, culminating with an attempted kidnapping and shoot out in front of our two grandson's school.  The Ambassador has officially announced that Monterry is no longer safe and children must leave.

So, today, God willing and the creek don't rise our daughter in law and our two grandboys will leave Monterrey and come to stay with us.  Unfortunately, our son must stay...

I am truly grateful we will have the boys with us safe and sound, but as you can well imagine, as a Mother, my heart is full of fear and anxiety for our son's safety.

For today,

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
and the courage to change the things I can....

Oh, Catherine, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through. As a mom I can surely relate, although fortunately I've never had to worry about anything like this. I mostly make up things to worry about (ha!). So, I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers! And will look forward to seeing a little more about your grandsons here on your blog. Hang in there!!! xoxox

Catherine,
What good fortune for the boys that they and their Mom can come and stay with you..and how wonderful for you also..and it must be comforting to their Dad to know they are safe...
I certainly can understand though as a Mom what you must be going through with your son still in Monterrey..I am sending nothing but good thoughts your way for you and your family..
Hugs, Connie

Catherine, it is indeed like a boxful of chocolates. I will certainly keep your son & family in my thoughts & prayers. It will be a relief to have your grandsons home with you but I do understand the worries you have about your son. A mom's worry is universal. I guess I don't really know what your son's career is????? Do take care my friend and keep us posted.
(((HUGS))) always!

Catherine my heart feels for you. Living in a "danger" zone myself I am fully aware of how challenging life can be. Thanks for popping by my blog - and yes I am going to Mykonos! What fun!

Oh, Catherine,
My heart just breaks for you right now. I remember those handsome grandsons so well. I will keep you all in my prayers...the serenity prayer is a perfect one for now. Living life...a day...an hour...a minute at a time.

I am so sad about Mexico. We have an exchange student daughter there and have spent a lot of time traveling and enjoying Mexico. We put in an offer on a house in San Miguel, somewhat away from the troubles, but did not get it. I worry about San Miguel, too, and hope that both our country and Mexico can work together to solve this.

Sending you my love and prayers for your son's safety. I don't know the situation but hope he will be safe there or can join you soon,

Suz

Oh my, I can not even imagine. I just read this and I hope your son's situation has been resolved. I will be hoping and praying for his safe return. How horrible for all of the people in Mexico to live in such fear.
