Travel Journal, part one

Prior to my fabulous travel adventure I signed up for an online journal class, Remains of the Day, taught by Mary Ann Moss.  As I begin to recount my travel and art adventures with you I thought it might be nice to start at the beginning and share my journal...

Front Cover
What fun I had using material scraps left over from my Silver Bella 2010 apron.  I also added some vintage lace and ribbon from French General which I have had for several years.  Tiny glass lady bugs and hearts hang from the side.

Front cover with open flap.
The button ribbon which goes around the journal was from Anthropology.  About two years ago this was the ribbon Anthropolgy gave out with their Christmas boxes for gifts.
Isn't it just perfect for the journal wrap?

Back cover with open flap
I made a little back pocket and attached a sweet cherry applique, think I was channeling Jenni Bowlin...LOL

Back inside cover and flap
When I attended The Farm Chicks Antique Fair, I found a wonderful piece of vintage chenille fabric which I thought might be just perfect for the journal.  I then printed a vintage travel ad onto Claudine Hellmuth canvas and sewed it onto the chenille

The pages, two signatures
I adore the art of book binding and thoroughly enjoyed creating the signatures and binding them by hand to the cover.

For those of you who regularly drop by you may think that I alread shared this journal and I sort of did...
When I first started the class I did a post about the journal, but was not happy with my end result and chose to scrap the first one and start over.  I reused some of the fabric but eliminated the oil cloth I used on the inside, it was just too stiff, and made some design changes as well ...LOL

XOXO
Catherine

LOVE this project so much, Catherine. Your fabrics and colors are some of my favorites. I've seen this project done before, and seeing yours really inspires me to take on this challenge as well.

Don't stop now! I want to see the whole thing again! I was mesmerized in Greece by your journal and signed up for the class when I got home! Your use of vintage 'stuff' is exactly where my heart is! I also peeked at your daughters journal - beautiful!
How talented you two are.

Enjoyed meeting you in Greece and I am like Ali - I just wanted to hold your journal in my hands!

Catherine,
You know, I do hang around here a lot and I forgot it. It is now new and beautiful to me, That is the good thing about memory lapse! I love it. Love the colors. Love the graphics. I remember that button piece from Antro. I think it was out birthday present from them!!

Yes, Ana makes everything from scratch. That is the Croation way. She has a bakery and makes incredible cupcakes, too. She even makes her own fondant and it tastes wonderful. They gave us six huge extra pieces of the cake to take back to our motel. I will stop there ;-)

Anxious to hear more about your trip!

Big hugs,
Suz

If it were not for the 1,000,000 stairs I would have had to run up to get away from you I would have snagged this while in Mykonos... it is the most incredible journal I have ever seen. It is a true piece of art. You are so talented.

What did you use for your pages? Are they all the same material or did you mix it up a bit?? Thank you from a huge fan from Minnesota!!
