I am getting ready for....

the Academy Awards 2010.

Yeah baby! I am a movie "nut" I love movies, always have...lol. My hubby and I are currently on a movie binge trying to see more of the nominated movies, actors, and actresses. With 10 best films this year the task is quite daunting.

March 7, 2010 is the date, be sure and put it on your calendar now, (wink) I still have much planning to do for the actual evening, what pajamas to wear, popcorn or chips? Red vines or Butterfingers accompanied by a delightful glass of chanpagne. Yes Champagne, it tastes wonderful with everything, say I :)

Will share more as we get closer but for now gotta go and finish watching "District 9", rented from Netflix. Saw "Crazy Heart" on Wednesday so you can see I am seriously working on this project. And yes it is affecting my crafting time...

So tell me, how about you, do you watch?

XOXO

Will you be my Valentine...

This year we are getting dressed up in our finest finery and going out for dinner at a charming bistro, La Fermata for Valentine's Day. A special evening with my "honey" what could be nicer.

How do you celebrate...whatever you do or don't do, I hope your day includes chocolate!

And no Valentine's Day can be complete without an homage to LOVE.
I, therefore, give you a few words written by none other than Miss Jane Austen...

Mr Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett
"You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever."

Elizabeth, feeling all the more than common awkwardness and anxiety of his situation, now forced herself to speak; and immediately, though not very fluently, gave him to understand that her sentiments had undergone so material a change, since the period to which he alluded, as to make her receive with gratitude and pleasure his present assurances. The happiness which this reply produced, was such as he had probably never felt before; and he expressed himself on the occasion as sensibly and as warmly as a man violently in love can be supposed to do. Had Elizabeth been able to encounter his eye, she might have seen how well the expression of heartfelt delight, diffused over his face, became him; but, though she could not look, she could listen, and he told her of feelings, which, in proving of what importance she was to him, made his affection every moment more valuable.

They walked on, without knowing in what direction. There was too much to be thought, and felt, and said, for attention to any other objects.

A preview...

Well am almost finished with my Remains of the Day journal cover. I just need to add a wrap around tie for the cover. Am still on the hunt for the perfect ribbon or fabric to use. This is the outside of the journal, made with bits and pieces of fabric I already had. I have been trying very hard not buy anything for my projects but use up what I have already. The fabric scraps are left overs from my Silver Bella apron, so the journal cover has a very 1950's kitschy feel to it. My usual palette is soft pink, cream, blue thus this is out of my comfort zone. But I stayed true to my commitment to use what I have and I am actually pretty pleased with the end result :) Note, the exception will be the tie, I just can't seem to find what I want amongst my stash, so off to shop I must go.

View with front cover flap open and a peek at the inside fabric, which is oil cloth. Luv the print but would not use oil cloth again, too stiff. I want to use this as a travel journal so I also was very aware of making it travel sturdy and friendly. I need it to be flat and pliable.
Now I just need to finish up the signatures and bind them onto the cover and I will be ready to go.
Check out Mary Ann's class I have had such fun sewing the cover and the paper pages. As I said before I really have never enjoyed sewing very much, but this has been a blast.

Someone should have stopped me...

ROFLOL...
I continue with Ali Edward's class, Yesterday & Tommorow, with the week six assignment focusing on documenting "change". So with change in mind I began browsing through our old photo albums and could not help but notice all the crazy hairdo's I had. Oh fashion how cruel thou art...
This is the first page of a two page scrapbook layout. Just check out these crazy styles: my shag, teased helmet hair, oh yes, big hair as well and how about the hippie chick with the round sunglasses and hat. My oh my, what was I thinking. Not sure this is the change Ali was referencing in her class but I have had fun making this silly page.

Do you have photos of you over the years with different hair styles? Would luv to see them :)

Enjoy the {View}

Today's View...

February 1st and this is My {View}...fog, grey, and dreary is today. The fog horn echos in the distance while a few brave winter birds float by.

Ah yes,

"February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March."

Dr. J. R. Stockton

Today I shall make chili in the crockpot and enjoy the spicey yummy smell as it fills the kitchen and spend time working on my "Remains of the Day Journal" What about you? How do you fill a grey winter's day?

A sewing machine, paper, and thread...oh my!

Like so many in blogland I have signed up for Mary Ann Moss' "Remains of the Day" on line journal class. Now this is not your average ordinary journal, rather it is sewing vintage papers into a collage to create your journal pages. Yes I did say sew...lol. Check out Pam Garrison's journal, "sew beautiful".

Hello baby! This machine has not seen the light of day for years but has sat quietly on a shelf all but forgotten. I truly have never loved "machine sewing" and consequetly always found it to be hard work and challenging. But hey, who doesn't need a good challenge now and then?

Some pretty papers pulled out from my stash...vintage wall paper, sheet music, magazine pages.
A few pages I am working on right now.
And yes, that is little ole me stitching away. Who knew what fun stitching paper could be. Yes I am actually having fun. However, I did let myself get a little side tracked from my assignment for Ali's class. But I will continue to post my layouts as I finish them up.

What are you working on today? Would luv to hear about your projects.

XOXO

My love story...

As I continue with Ali's class I am now on week 5, Creating a layout without photos. The focus is on telling the story even if you do not have the pictures to put in the album. While I am willing to try each assignment this one is not my favorite. For me, the purpose of the scrapbook process is using my photos and telling that story. This exercise felt more like journaling one's memories. However, having said that, I must say telling my "love story" was a delightful experience and I do hope one day my grandchildren will enjoy it.

What do you think about scrapping without photos....
